The Story Needed Mending

pimping new land comm

So I don't normally pimp things unless I really believe in them, and think they are truely awesome, and this is one of those times.

I know I have a lot of femslash fans on my flist, so go and have a look at this:

femslash_land femslash_land femslash_land

For those who are members of landcomms already and are sick of having to write het/ambiguous fic in order to win challenges, we need no longer conform! (lol)

And for those of you who aren't on any landcomms, this is a team challenge community where individuals compete in graphics and fic challenges, as well as do fun games and puzzles, to earn points for their team. It's a great place to meet new people, as well as participate in things you wouldn't normally do (I hated graphics, but have learnt I'm not half bad at them)

This landcomm is for all femslash tv and movie pairings, so come along, apply and join in the fun!

Why this must be read:

Another movie that I wish had more femslash. This is a beautiful post-movie story with really great character voices for both girls. It has a lovely rhythm to it; the two of them sort of stuck in a holding pattern at first, then a perfectly hot ending where things start to pop with life.

Fandom: MONA LISA SMILE (2003 movie)
Pairing: Betty/Giselle
Length: ~2300 words

Why this must be read:

This story not only fits nicely within the canon of the movie, but expands on and improves it (I didn't actually think it was a very good movie, but plenty of slashy subtext!). Great characterizations for both women; true to their often conflicting views on things but allowing them to grow and connect and meet in the middle. It's a tender and occasionally very sexy love story between two very different people, and it works.

The Wrong Girl by sheepfairy (R)

Pairing: Amanda/Betty
Length: 684 words
Author on LJ: sheepfairy
Author Website: sheepfairy
Why this must be read:

Makes this pairing work while still staying true to Amanda's character -- she's still bitchy, generally shallow, hilarious, but has her moments of startling insight. She's intrigued by Betty despite herself. It's a really fabulous Amanda voice.

Also contains one so-wrong-it's-right line about Betty's braces that is perfect! I won't spoil it, but you'll know it when you read it. :)

Breathing Underwater by pene (R)

Fandom: BLUE CRUSH (2002 MOVIE)
Pairing: Anne Marie / Eden
Length: ~3000 words

Why this must be read:

There's not nearly enough fic (for my liking) for this movie. This is an utterly breathtaking story about surfing, life, and love. It's so vividly told with gorgeous imagery and language; all your senses are immersed in the story (especially in all the surfing and oceanside moments, you really feel like you're there). The Anne Marie / Eden romance is really lovely but also feels honest -- they piss each other off occasionally, push each other hard, but the love and need and understanding is always there.
